AI Automation Engineer (Agentic Workflows)

About the Role

About DoberDober is a specialty chemical and software company headquartered in the western Chicago suburbs. Across our divisions - commercial laundry SaaS, manufacturing, and agriculture - we're building AI into the core of how we operate, not bolting it on the side. This is a company where a strong idea can go from whiteboard to production fast, and where the person building it gets to see the impact. The RoleWe're looking for a builder. Someone early in their career but already fluent in modern AI tooling, who can walk into a business unit, understand how work actually flows, and build agents that take real work off people's plates. You'll sit at the intersection of operations and engineering: mapping processes one day, shipping a working agent the next. This is not a research role. We measure success in problems solved and hours saved. What You'll Do • Embed with teams across our divisions to learn how work really gets done — the steps, the decisions, the handoffs, the friction. • Design and build AI agents using LLM APIs, tool/function calling, orchestration frameworks, and retrieval systems. • Turn manual, repetitive, or judgment-heavy workflows into reliable automated systems. • Build with governance in mind: provenance, error handling, and human-in-the-loop where it matters. • Prototype fast, ship, measure, and iterate. • Help shape how AI gets deployed across the enterprise as we scale. What We're Looking For • Demonstrated ability to build with modern AI: LLM APIs (Anthropic, OpenAI, etc.), function/tool calling, and at least one agent orchestration approach (LangGraph, CrewAI, MCP, or similar). • A knack for understanding business processes — you can watch someone work and break down what they do into buildable steps. • Real projects we can look at: GitHub, deployed apps, hackathon builds, side projects. What you've shipped matters more than where you studied. • Comfort with Python and working with APIs and data. • Bias to action. You'd rather have a working prototype by Friday than a perfect plan next month. • Clear communicator who can work directly with non-technical people. Nice to Have • Experience with RAG, vector databases, or knowledge graphs. • Familiarity with MCP (Model Context Protocol). • Any exposure to manufacturing, chemical, SaaS, or agricultural operations. Why Dober • Direct line to leadership and real ownership of what you build. • A company genuinely committed to being AI-native, with executive sponsorship behind it. • The chance to build foundational systems, not maintain someone else's legacy code. • Competitive compensation, bonus, and benefits. Compensation: $95,000–$120,000 base depending on experience, plus annual discretionary bonus. We offer a comprehensive benefits package that includes medical, dental, and vision coverage, short-term and long-term disability insurance, life insurance, paid time off (PTO), paid parental leave, volunteer time off, and a Calm app membership. Our expanding wellness program supports your overall health and work-life balance.
