About the Role
Who we are
Samsara (NYSE: IOT) is the pioneer of the Connected Operations™ Cloud, which is a platform that enables organizations that depend on physical operations to harness Internet of Things (IoT) data to develop actionable insights and improve their operations. At Samsara, we are helping improve the safety, efficiency and sustainability of the physical operations that power our global economy. Representing more than 40% of global GDP, these industries are the infrastructure of our planet, including agriculture, construction, field services, transportation, and manufacturing — and we are excited to help digitally transform their operations at scale.
Working at Samsara means you'll help define the future of physical operations and be on a team that's shaping an exciting array of product solutions, including Video-Based Safety, Vehicle Telematics, Apps and Driver Workflows, and Equipment Monitoring. As part of a recently public company, you'll have the autonomy and support to make an impact as we build for the long term.
About the role:
As a Security Operations Engineer at Samsara, you will join a global team dedicated to protecting our people, systems, and information. You will triage and investigate security alerts, run incident response efforts, and help improve the tools, runbooks, and automated workflows we use to detect and respond to threats.
This role is an ideal next step if you have built foundational experience in a SOC or hands-on security environment and want to develop your technical craft. At Samsara, we view this level as a collaborative apprenticeship: you will develop independent execution skills on discrete investigations, break down incoming alerts into actionable steps, partner with incident stakeholders to remediate findings, and work alongside experienced responders during complex security incidents. You will also explore modern AI tools and insights to simplify routine tasks and optimize your day-to-day workflow.
We are looking for someone who follows the evidence, communicates with intellectual honesty, asks thoughtful questions, and brings a collaborative, pragmatic approach to security operations.
In this role, you will:
• Monitor, triage and investigate security alerts across identity, endpoint, email, SaaS and cloud environments, using our tools, runbooks and escalation procedures.
• Own routine investigations and incidents through to a documented outcome: gather evidence, establish a timeline, assess the activity and explain your conclusions.
• Support experienced responders during major security incidents through evidence collection, technical analysis, and agreed containment and recovery actions.
• Maintain clear investigation records and provide useful updates and handovers to teammates across regions.
• Improve runbooks, help tune detections, and contribute small scripts or automated workflows with guidance and review from teammates.
• Participate in post-incident reviews and turn lessons learned into practical improvements.
• Champion Samsara's cultural principles: Focus on Customer Success, Build for the Long Term, Adopt a Growth Mindset, Be Inclusive, and Win as a Team.
Minimum requirements for the role:
• Hands-on experience triaging and investigating security alerts in a security operations, incident response or similar role.
• Experience using security tools such as a SIEM, endpoint detection and response platform, or email security platform to investigate suspicious activity.
• An understanding of common threats, such as phishing, account compromise and suspicious endpoint activity, and the networking, operating system and identity concepts needed to investigate them.
• Ability to query and interpret logs, distinguish evidence from assumptions, and recognise when further investigation or escalation is needed.
• Some scripting experience: you can read, adapt and write small scripts in Python or another language to support an investigation or simplify repetitive work.
• Clear written and verbal communication, including documenting findings, explaining uncertainty and providing effective handovers.
• A careful approach to sensitive information, willingness to ask for help, and openness to feedback.
We welcome different routes into security. A particular degree or certification is not required; we're interested in what you can do, how you approach problems, and what you're ready to learn next.
An ideal candidate also has:
• Experience investigating activity in cloud platforms such as AWS or GCP, SaaS applications, or identity systems.
• Exposure to writing or tuning detections, threat hunting, or investigating activity across multiple data sources.
• Experience using Python, APIs or automation platforms to improve a security workflow.
• Familiarity with evidence collection or forensic analysis on macOS, Windows or Linux.
You do not need experience in every area above. Bring a solid operational foundation, curiosity and a willingness to lear
Saṃsāra is a Sanskrit word that means "wandering" as well as "world," wherein the term connotes "cyclic change" or, less formally, "running around in circles." In the context of Indian religions and philosophies, saṃsāra is the concept of all beings experiencing an ongoing cycle of life, death, and rebirth. As a result, it can also be equated broadly with transmigration/reincarnation, the karmic cycle, the lesser-used term Punarjanman, or a "cycle of aimless drifting, wandering or mundane existence".
