Full-Stack App Developer (AI Products)

Dubai-based | Mostly Remote | Contract | Deliverable-based ABOUT THE ROLE SCALR is looking for a hands-on developer who knows how to build and ship products in a startup environment, including products that use AI as a core part of the user experience. We are looking for someone who can take an idea, understand what needs to be built, make sensible technical decisions, build it, integrate the right AI capabilities, deploy it and keep improving it. Ideally, you have built apps yourself, worked in small startups, freelanced on complete products, or been one of only a few developers responsible for getting a product from idea to real users. You will work directly with the founder on new digital products, starting with a consumer application currently being developed in Dubai. AI will be an important part of these products. You should be comfortable deciding where AI adds real value, selecting appropriate models or services, integrating them into the application, and building the surrounding product logic required to make the result reliable and useful. The work will be mostly remote, but you must be based in Dubai and available for occasional in-person meetings when useful. This is initially a contract role. Work will be organised around agreed deliverables rather than fixed office hours. You will have significant ownership over how products are built. WHAT YOU WILL DO Build mobile-first web applications and PWAs from concept to production Work across frontend, backend, databases and APIs Translate product ideas and requirements into working software Make practical architecture and technology decisions Integrate AI models and APIs into real product workflows Work with LLMs, multimodal models, image understanding, structured extraction and similar AI capabilities where relevant Build prompts, model interactions, validation logic and fallbacks around AI outputs Combine AI with structured data, business rules and recommendation logic Evaluate different AI providers and models based on quality, speed and cost Build authentication, user accounts, payments and third-party integrations Set up deployment, monitoring and product analytics Debug and solve problems independently Use modern AI development tools to build faster and more effectively Iterate quickly based on product feedback and real user behaviour AI EXPERIENCE IS IMPORTANT This is not simply a developer role where using Cursor or another AI coding assistant counts as AI experience. We are specifically looking for someone who has integrated AI into applications used by real users. That could include experience with: OpenAI, Anthropic, Google Gemini or similar model APIs LLM-powered application features Multimodal AI Image recognition and image understanding OCR and document extraction Structured data extraction from unstructured inputs AI-assisted search or recommendations Tool calling and agent-style workflows Retrieval and contextual AI experiences Prompt and output evaluation Managing unreliable model responses Cost, latency and model-selection tradeoffs Combining deterministic application logic with probabilistic AI outputs You do not need to be an AI researcher or train foundation models from scratch. You do need to understand how to turn existing AI capabilities into reliable product features. THE KIND OF DEVELOPER WE WANT You have probably worked in a startup, built your own product, freelanced on complete applications, or been part of a very small development team. You are comfortable being the person who says: "I can build that." And then actually gets it into production. You do not need someone else to handle every backend task, deployment issue, API integration, AI integration or technical decision. You know when something needs a robust solution and when a simple solution is enough for the current stage of the product. You are comfortable working with incomplete information, asking the right questions and moving forward without waiting for a perfect specification. Most importantly, you have personally shipped real applications and have practical experience integrating AI into products. TECHNICAL EXPERIENCE You should have strong practical experience with several of the following: React and/or Next.js TypeScript / JavaScript Responsive web application development Backend development and APIs SQL and relational databases such as PostgreSQL Platforms such as Supabase Authentication and user management Cloud deployment Git and modern development workflows AI APIs and LLM integrations Multimodal AI or computer vision APIs Product analytics and monitoring AI-assisted development tools such as Codex, Claude Code, Cursor or similar Experience with native mobile applications, payments, OCR, recommendation systems or structured extraction is useful.
