This role puts you in the same room as the people who will use what you build, within weeks. Source Capital is an Atlanta-based private equity firm that has partnered with entrepreneurial business owners since 2002. We own and back a portfolio of 40+ companies across field services, specialty contracting, industrial and environmental services, healthcare, manufacturing, and distribution. We are committed to investing seriously in AI at the firm level, with tools already in daily use across deal screening, document review, research, and reporting. This role is based at Source Capital, and the primary focus is the firm itself. You will build and extend the internal tooling our investment, finance, and operations teams rely on: deal sourcing and screening, diligence, portfolio monitoring, investor reporting, and back-office automation. Because we own 40+ operating companies, the work can also lead outward. Tools that prove themselves at the firm level often have an obvious application inside a portfolio company, and there will be opportunities over time to take them there. We are hiring one or two engineers. You will report directly to a Principal of the firm on a small team with a short distance from idea to production. What You'll Build • AI-powered internal tools using LLM APIs, including assistants, agents, and document pipelines that support deal sourcing, screening, and diligence • Document workflow automation across the materials we work in every day: CIMs, financial statements, NDAs and legal documents, and the analysis that comes out of them • Portfolio monitoring dashboards that turn 40+ companies' worth of monthly reporting into a single view • Integrations across the systems the firm runs on, including Microsoft 365, our CRM, and our fund accounting and administration platforms • Workflow automation that removes manual admin work from our deal, finance, and investor reporting processes • Prompt systems, skills, and evaluation harnesses that make our internal tooling more reliable over time • Occasionally, and depending on interest and fit, adaptations of firm-level tools for a portfolio company use case Who We're Looking For • Recent graduate in Computer Science, Software Engineering, AI/ML, Data Science, or a related field, or equivalent self-taught skills with projects to show • Working proficiency in Python and/or JavaScript • Hands-on experience with LLM APIs, prompt engineering, or AI application development. Class projects, personal projects, and hackathons absolutely count • Comfort with APIs, messy data, and learning unfamiliar systems quickly • A builder's mindset. You would rather ship something useful this week than perfect something for a quarter • Willingness to sit with non-technical users, whether an investment professional or a controller, and understand a workflow before you automate it • Curiosity about how private equity and small businesses actually work. You will learn both from the inside Bonus points (not required): SQL, Power BI or other BI tools, Microsoft Graph / M365 APIs, MCP or agent frameworks, React, RPA or workflow automation experience, or any exposure to finance, accounting, or small-business operations. Designed to grow into ownership of the firm's AI function. This is an Atlanta-based role with limited travel.
