About the Role

The Platform team creates the technology that enables Spotify to learn quickly and scale easily, enabling rapid growth in our users and our business around the globe. Spanning many disciplines, we work to make the business work; creating the infrastructure, tooling, frameworks, and capabilities needed to welcome a billion customers. You'll join the Learning Infrastructure Studio, a critical part of Spotify's Platform mission. Our teams build the foundational infrastructure and intelligence layer that powers data science work at Spotify. We serve a rapidly expanding set of users, from specialist data scientists doing deep analytical work, to product builders, business analysts, and increasingly, AI agents that need the right context, skills, and guardrails to work effectively with data. What You'll Do • Lead, grow, and support a team of engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence, psychological safety, and continuous learning • Set technical direction and partner closely with senior engineers to evolve our learning platforms • Partner deeply with product managers and technical leads to shape the roadmap and ensure engineering perspective is present from strategy through to delivery. • Drive delivery of high-impact initiatives, balancing speed, quality, and long-term sustainability • Foster a strong engineering culture grounded in inclusion, ownership, and continuous improvement • Coach and mentor engineers, helping them develop their technical and leadership skills • Contribute to org-wide strategy for data science infrastructure and platform capabilities • Help the team navigate a fast-moving AI landscape: evaluate emerging tooling, integrate new capabilities thoughtfully, and build engineering practices that are ready for a world where humans and agents work together. • Stay close to the code and systems: participate in design reviews, guide architecture, and maintain enough hands-on context to make high-quality technical decisions. • Act as a technical multiplier, stepping in on ambiguous or high-stakes problems while ensuring the team remains the primary driver of delivery. Who You Are • You have experience managing and developing engineering teams in infrastructure, platform, or data and analytics tooling context. • You've led teams building infrastructure or platform capabilities used at scale. You understand what it means to be a foundational layer that others depend on. • You're well-versed in how AI is shifting data and analytics workflows, and you bring informed opinions about how engineering teams should adapt and grow into that future. You're doing AI-native development and can guide engineers to transform AI-native tools for data scientists. • You know how to balance technical depth with people leadership and stakeholder collaboration • You care about building inclusive, psychologically safe teams where everyone can do their best work • You have a track record of delivering complex technical projects with measurable impact • You are comfortable navigating ambiguity and helping teams prioritize effectively • You're comfortable operating as a player–coach, balancing leadership with hands-on technical contribution, and you know how to scale yourself by contributing selectively rather than becoming a bottleneck. Where You'll Be • This role is based in Toronto • We offer you the flexibility to work where you work best! There will be some in person meetings, but still allows for flexibility to work from home. Spotify is an equal opportunity employer. You are welcome at Spotify for who you are, no matter where you come from, what you look like, or what's playing in your headphones. Our platform is for everyone, and so is our workplace. The more voices we have represented and amplified in our business, the more we will all thrive, contribute, and be forward-thinking! So bring us your personal experience, your perspectives, and your background. It's in our differences that we will find the power to keep revolutionizing the way the world listens. At Spotify, we are passionate about inclusivity and making sure our entire recruitment process is accessible to everyone. We have ways to request reasonable accommodations during the interview process and help assist in what you need. If you need accommodations at any stage of the application or interview process, please let us know - we're here to support you in any way we can.
