About the Role

Role DescriptionJoin a team building software from the ground up. We are looking for an Applied AI Engineer to own AI-powered product modules end-to-end. You will take the architecture and the plan, then run with it: design the prompt pipelines, build evaluation frameworks, ship features, run beta cycles with clinicians, and iterate. Starting priorities include patient intake, scheduling, automated report drafting, chart review flagging, and medical document extraction. You are responsible for the full modules that clinicians interact with daily, from the AI layer through the user-facing features built around it. The expected salary range for this role is $130,000 to $150,000 USD per year for full-time, depending on experience. Contractor arrangements (9-12 months) are also available. Responsibilities • Build AI pipelines for clinical report drafting, chart review flagging, and medical document extraction • Design, test, and iterate on prompt chains and structured outputs, incorporating clinician feedback • Build evaluation frameworks to measure AI output quality against clinical documentation standards • Ship production features in React and Python, coordinating with backend and front-end engineers • Run beta cycles with clinical users, collect feedback, triage bugs, and manage your own backlog You May Be a Good Fit If You Have • 5+ years of professional software engineering experience • Production experience building features with LLM APIs (Claude, GPT-4, Gemini, or similar). Not prototypes or demos, but features real users depend on. • Prompt engineering skills including multi-step chains, structured outputs, and evaluation design • Web development experience (React and/or Python) • Proficiency with AI-assisted development tools (Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot, or similar) • Experience working with unstructured or inconsistent real-world data • The ability to work independently with minimal day-to-day oversight Strong Candidates May Also Have • Healthcare or EHR/EMR domain experience (Epic, Cerner, or similar) • Document extraction or OCR pipeline experience • Experience owning a product area end-to-end, not just implementing tickets • HIPAA and healthcare data compliance familiarity Company DescriptionInstitutes of Health (IOH) specializes in comprehensive behavioral medicine and medical psychology, catering to First Responders and the Workers' Compensation Community. With expertise in Brain Injury, Chronic Pain, and Complex PTSD programs, IOH supports individuals through specialized care.
