Frequently Asked Questions
What makes a senior vibe coder different from a traditional senior engineer?
Senior vibe coders combine deep engineering fundamentals with mastery of AI tools. They know when to delegate to AI (boilerplate, tests, refactoring) and when to bring their own judgment (architecture, security, user impact). They're also typically excellent async communicators and can work with high autonomy.
What do companies look for in a senior remote developer?
Proven track record of shipping production systems, ability to design and reason about complex architectures, strong written communication for async collaboration, and demonstrated mastery of AI coding tools. Companies want engineers who can own entire features or systems independently.
What salary can senior remote developers expect?
Senior remote developer salaries range from $150k–$350k+ in total compensation at US companies, £80k–£150k in the UK, and €70k–€140k in Europe. Top-tier AI-focused companies (Anthropic, OpenAI, Cursor, etc.) pay at the very top of the range with significant equity.
How do senior developers negotiate remote work arrangements?
Senior engineers have the most negotiating leverage. In addition to salary, senior remote developers often negotiate: fully async work (no required meetings), 4-day weeks, laptop budget, conference allowances, and flexible PTO. Companies that want senior talent know they need to offer flexibility.
