Frequently Asked Questions
Is Next.js just React?
Next.js is React + a ton of powerful features: server-side rendering, static generation, API routes, file-based routing, image optimization, and more. Next.js makes React production-ready. In 2026, most new React apps are built with Next.js.
What salary can remote Next.js developers expect?
Next.js developers (typically React + TypeScript + Next.js) earn strong frontend salaries. Mid-level: $85k–$145k, senior: $145k–$230k, staff/lead: $210k–$350k+. Next.js is in massive demand at well-funded startups.
Do I need to know backend to use Next.js?
Not deeply, but basic understanding helps. Next.js lets you write API routes and server-side logic alongside your frontend code. You don't need to be a backend expert, but familiarity with APIs, databases, and auth is valuable.
What's the job market like for Next.js developers?
Excellent. Next.js is the fastest-growing React framework, and most modern React jobs list Next.js as a requirement or strong preference. If you're learning React, learn Next.js — it's the standard in 2026.
